Baking Activity
Our children love to bake! We teachers and children enjoy baking a variety of muffins, biscuits, scones and cakes. What better way to provide them with an interactive experience while learning important life skills. We teachers guide, support and explain each step of the process at the start, also divide the tasks among children ((taking into account age appropriateness) so that children can gain knowledge and experience of step by step process of measuring, mixing and creating a delicious finished product.

Baking is lots of fun and rather messy! But among all the mess, some of the many benefits that our children gain from the whole baking experience are:
- Maths (being able to use various measuring devices such as measuring spoons, cups children learn about measuring and number concepts in real life)
- Reading skills (improve vocabulary as children follow instruction)
- Teamwork (Building relationships with others who are involved)
- Science(encourages scientific curiosity, for example understanding of what role the rising agent plays and follow step by step process to create a product)
- Life skills (Cultivating an understanding food hygiene(remembering to wash hands before start), learning about product labels, the contents of what we are eating and how much simpler and cheaper it can be to make 'from scratch' rather than buy ready prepared meals. Our children put their playdough skills to good use example if they are making biscuits (roll, cut, and move shapes to baking trays). Once the baking activity is complete, children are involved in the clean up so that they understand it is a part of the process.
